The City of Pittsburgh is seeking Police Property & Evidence Technicians to support the Bureau of Police by managing property and evidence receipt, storage, and safekeeping. Qualifications

• One year of full-time administrative or police property/evidence experience.
• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
• Total qualifying requirement is three years via experience + education.

Responsibilities

• Receives and documents property and evidence from officers, detectives, and other sources.
• Safely stores and organizes property and evidence in a secure and organized manner.
• Conducts regular inventory of evidence room and property.
• Maintains accurate and detailed records of the chain of custody, ensuring the integrity of evidence.
• Maintains procedures for the custody and handling of evidence.
• Tracks statute of limitations and legal time frames.
• Checks for compliance with regulations, processes evidence for transfer to crime laboratories for testing and to prosecutors for court cases.
• Maintains confidentiality of City records and/or confidential discussions pertaining to City records.
• Assists individuals inquiring about property or evidence.
• Assesses evidence for disposition, whether it should be returned to the owner, destroyed, or disposed of according to legal requirements.
• Exemplifies the Bureau rules and regulations, both on and off duty.
• Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
