About the Opportunity
A well-established and expanding real estate management group is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee their accounting and financial operations.
This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role with broad exposure across acquisitions, dispositions, financing, compliance, and portfolio‑level reporting. The Controller will play a key role in strengthening financial processes, supporting growth initiatives, and providing clear, actionable insights to ownership and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee general ledger activities and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple entities.
- Prepare and review financial statements, variance analysis, and management and asset-level reporting.
- Support acquisitions and dispositions through financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction support.
- Maintain accurate accounting and reporting for real estate assets throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and key performance indicator (KPI) reporting.
- Ensure accurate accounting across various ownership structures and legal entities.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other third-party partners.
- Oversee tax compliance processes and ensure timely and accurate filings.
- Develop, implement, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders on operational, leasing, and asset-related matters.
- Oversee insurance renewals and ongoing compliance requirements.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred (MBA or Master’s a plus).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–4+ years in real estate accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices; experience with complex ownership structures preferred.
- Proficiency with real estate accounting systems (e.g., Yardi), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP/reporting tools.
- Proven leadership capability with strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with integrity and sound judgment.
- Knowledge of NYC and NY State real estate tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to institutional reporting standards and lender/investor reporting.
