Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Police Department is seeking a Property Control Specialist for the Police Property Room. You will handle receipt, storage, release and disposition of property and evidence, reporting to a Senior Property & Evidence Specialist.

Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED and at least 1 year in property/evidence maintenance or related field. A valid driver’s license and CJIS background clearance are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Receive, document, process and store evidence and other property; assign control numbers and storage locations.
  • Operate pallet jacks or cherry picker forklifts as needed in warehouse.
  • Perform inventories and lift/store boxes as required.
  • Release property and evidence to crime labs, courts or law enforcement; ensure chain of custody.
  • Determine final disposition of property and prepare disposal paperwork.

Pay Range: $18.32 - $22.90/hr. | $38,109 - $47,636 annual compensation

Workdays & Hours: This position will be REQUIRED to work 2nd (2p-10p) or 3rd (10p-6a) shift, WEEKENDS and HOLIDAYS. Also work outside in inclement weather as needed.

A Property Control Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department Police Property Room. This position will primary be responsible for performing a variety of technical duties relative to receipt, storage, protection, delivery, release and disposition of property or evidence. This position will report to a Senior Property & Evidence Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of property and evidence maintenance, warehouse and inventory, recording keeping, customer service or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass drug screen, polygraph and CJIS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive public contact customer service skills
  • Experience working in a warehouse and/or with property inventory and inspection
  • Experience working in law enforcement, and knowledge of Texas Penal Code andCode of Criminal Procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)

The Property Control Specialist job responsibilities include:

  • Receive, document, process and store evidence and other property; assign controlnumbers and storage locations to property and evidence
  • Perform warehouse related duties such as operate pallet jacks/cherry picker forklifts
  • Perform inventories, lift and store boxes, as required
  • Release property and evidence to crime lab, courts, the public or various law enforcements agencies; ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations and chain of custody procedures
  • Determine the final disposition of property and evidence; prepare appropriate paperwork for disposal; remove property from storage location and prepare for the destroying, donation or auctioning of property
  • Answer questions and provide general information to the public regarding Police Department policies and procedures pertaining to the storage and release of property
  • Read reports, comprehend and accurately apply policy

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
