Job summary

City of Alexandria is seeking Code Inspector I–III to conduct proactive inspections and review complaints under the Virginia USBC guidelines. The role involves on-site inspections, documenting findings, and coordinating abatement actions with property owners and tenants.

Ideal candidates will have progressive inspection experience and the ability to testify in court when required. A valid driver's license is required, with certification and career ladder progression within twelve months.

Qualifications

• At least three (3) years of experience in construction or related field for Code Inspector I; or an associate's degree with 1 year experience.
• At least four (4) years of experience in code enforcement or property inspections for Code Inspector II with related education.
• At least five (5) years of experience in code enforcement or property inspections for Code Inspector III; or relevant degrees with experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level code inspections in accordance with the USBC.
• Review complaints and identify applicable code violations during on-site inspections.
• Negotiate compliance actions with property owners, tenants and business owners.
• Enter inspection data and generate violation notices and corrective directions.
