Job summary

Bedford County seeks a Building Code Inspector II to perform inspections and plan reviews across residential projects in accordance with Virginia codes. You will interact with contractors and property owners, prepare inspection reports, and participate in enforcing permitting regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination with construction-related experience.
  • Three years or more in building trades or related construction education may satisfy requirements.
  • Must be certified as residential inspector through DHCD; certification timeline and other certifications may affect raises.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and re-inspections of residential buildings for code compliance.
  • Conduct plan reviews of residential plans and related systems for compliance with codes.
  • Investigate complaints regarding defective construction and enforce regulations.
  • Inspect existing buildings for hazards, structural failures, or improper uses.
