Job summary

USAA Life Insurance Company is seeking a Field-based Property Adjuster Specialist in Fairfax County, VA. This hourly, non-exempt role involves investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of complex property claims with a virtual-first approach to inspections.

You will work within guidelines to confirm coverage, determine liability, and coordinate with vendors. Willingness to travel 50-75% and occasional catastrophe duty are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience of moderate complexity.
• Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools.
• Proficient knowledge of residential construction.
• Proficient knowledge of property claims contracts and state laws and regulations.
• Proficient negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to travel 50-75% of the year and perform catastrophe duties when needed.
• Acquire and maintain an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

Responsibilities

• Proactively manages assigned claims caseload of complex damages.
• Negotiates settlements within authority and updates management on cases outside authority.
• Investigates damages using insured, third parties, and external sources.
• Assess coverage concerns and SIU referrals when appropriate.
• Maintain thorough claim file documentation throughout the process.
• Utilize estimating tech platforms and virtual inspection tools for complex claims.
• Support CAT response, including on-call and after-hours work when needed.
• Travel to resolve claims or conduct inspections as required.
