Job summary

Teller County's Assessor's Office in Cripple Creek, CO seeks an Appraisal Specialist I to perform field inspections for vacant land and other properties and handle various administrative functions.

The role involves processing ownership documents, answering public inquiries about the assessment process, and supporting appraisers in valuel defense. On-site work with county standards and deadlines is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year experience in an office setting or customer service.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
• Ability to gain knowledge of local government procedures and property taxation guidelines; Colorado statutes.

Responsibilities

• Process ownership transfer documents, deeds, splits and combinations; subdivisions and address changes.
• Answer inquiries from the public regarding the assessment process and guidelines; assist with problems and solutions.
• Conduct on-site inspections of vacant land, agricultural and other property types to determine attributes.
• Enter data in property records database and create sketches using specialized software.
• Conduct sales confirmations.
• Assist appraisers with case preparation for value defense.
• Process agricultural status requests, title transfers, and exemptions; monitor tax aspects.
• Manage the Law Enforcement Confidentiality Program.
• Process abatements and calculate tax refunds.
• Process applications and maintain records for Senior Homestead and Disabled Veterans Exemptions.
• Review and update information on the Assessor's website.
• Assist with cartography requests and determine property boundaries.
• Collect and maintain personal property data; input changes in RealWare.
• Assist with training as necessary.
• Perform similar duties as assigned.
