Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a senior property accounting leader in Austin, TX to partner with operational and corporate leaders, strengthen accounting processes, and improve reporting quality. This on-site role requires hands-on leadership and a continuous-improvement mindset.

You will oversee monthly closes, lease accounting, tenant operating expenses, and a team of accounting professionals while promoting controls and scalable workflows.

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience with significant responsibility for property accounting, financial reporting, and close management.
• Commercial real estate experience with lease accounting and property-level financial activity.
• Experience managing tenant operating expense reconciliations and true-ups.
• Proven leadership of accounting teams and cross-functional coordination.
• Strong systems, analytical, communication, and process-improvement capabilities; CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial statement fluctuations.
• Oversee accounting for an assigned property portfolio, including lease accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and property-level variance analysis.
• Manage tenant operating expense reconciliation processes, including budgets, annual true-ups, and related reporting.
• Prepare financial analyses and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting requirements.
• Partner with operational and corporate stakeholders to explain financial results and resolve accounting matters.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation standards.
• Evaluate accounting systems, reporting tools, and workflows to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Lead automation, system enhancement, process standardization, and other strategic accounting initiatives.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals while promoting accountability and operational excellence.
