Job summary

Westfield Public Schools seeks two tutors for the Westfield Promise Program at Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy. This part-time role involves providing one-on-one or small-group tutoring, traveling to students’ homes or schools, and coordinating with families and school staff to support student progress.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in education (preferred) and experience with high school students.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education is preferred.
Experience with high school age students is required.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

Provide private instruction to individual or small groups to improve academic performance.
Travel to students’ homes, libraries or schools for tutoring sessions.
Schedule tutoring appointments with students and/or their parents.
Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
Monitor student performance and assist in academic environments.
Review class material with students and discuss worksheets or assignments.
Assess students’ progress during tutoring sessions.
Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques.
Communicate progress to students, parents or teachers by written reports, in person, by phone or email.
Collaborate with the Career Center counselor, the Westfield Promise counselor, teachers and parents to determine student needs and tutoring plans.
