Job summary

ZEISS is seeking a Project Technician to lead on-site installations of automated measurement equipment and troubleshoot CMM project systems. You will act as the customer-facing lead during commissioning.

Travel 50-70% to customer sites, train end users, support engineering changes, and document installation reports. Proficiency in CAD/blueprints, MS Office, and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for concise reports.
• Proficiency in MS Office and ability to train customers.
• Electrical systems troubleshooting experience is preferred.
• Must have a valid US driver license.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site installation as ZEISS representative for project content.
• Install, troubleshoot, and run ZEISS CMM automated loading systems.
• Direct and support end-user teams during installation of equipment.
• Oversee equipment through the PRO TAG process and document acceptance.
• Program and troubleshoot safety and electrical systems; Watlow HVAC controller.
• Communicate installation status to the project manager; coordinate with vendors.
• Prepare installation reports and custom operation documentation.
• Identify and report engineering changes; support engineering validation.
• Train customers on system use at the site.

Job description

What's the role?

The Project Technician is responsible for leading, troubleshooting, and resolving on‑site issues with CMM project system installations. The Project Technician is the front‑line face to the customer during the commissioning of automated measurement equipment.

Here's what you'll do

• Installations:
  • Represent ZEISS as onsite lead during installation of all Project related content
  • Install, troubleshoot, and run off ZEISS CMM automated loading systems
  • Direct and support end user skilled trades teams during the installation of ZEISS CMM enclosure and automated measurement systems
  • Oversee ZEISS equipment as it moves through the PRO TAG process
  • Program and troubleshoot safety systems and electrical systems
  • Program and troubleshoot Watlow HVAC controller
  • Communicate on‑site installation status to project manager
  • Work with and validate deliverables of ZEISS contractors & vendors
  • Document system acceptance and provide installation report to project manager
  • Prepare custom documentation for the operation of each unique system
• Engineering Changes:
  • Identify and report necessary Engineering Changes
  • Support Engineering team in the development and validation of engineering changes
• On‑Site Support:
  • Train customer on system use

Do you qualify?

• Mechanical inclinations and skills preferred
• Verbal and written communication skills with an ability to create concise technical reports
• Mechanical detailing – reading blueprints, CAD drawings, etc.
• Excellent computer skill, including proficiency in MS Office
• Electrical systems troubleshooting experience desired
• Must be a team player across the organization
• Must have valid US driver license

Working Conditions

• Willingness to travel to customer sites 50%-70% and work off‑schedule hours for up to 3 weeks at a time
• Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, such as keyboarding; conducting internet or other research; data entry, coding, matching and filing, and other similar tasks
• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis
