Job Description

Position Summary:The Youth Attendance Navigator will play a key role in supporting students at risk of chronic absenteeism by working directly with youth, families, school staff, and community partners. The Navigator will identify barriers to regular attendance, build positive relationships, and implement individualized strategies to improve school engagement and success. The Navigator will collaborate with school personnel, parents, and guardians to address and reduce barriers that may impact attendance. Along with building positive relationships and implementing individualized strategies to improve school engagement, this position requires excellent interpersonal communication and attention to detail skills. The ability to interact with students and families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds is essential, along with the capacity to develop partnerships and collaborations within the school and community.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach and build trusting relationships with students experiencing chronic absenteeism.
  • Collaborate with parents and school personnel to better understand student needs, monitor attendance trends, and identify students requiring support.
  • Provide case management, develop action plans, and connect youth/families to needed resources.
  • Perform daily data entry of case and progress notes.
  • Engage in motivational conversations with students to set goals and identify challenges.
  • Track and document attendance patterns and progress using internal systems; maintain case notes and files, prepare monthly reports, and regularly assess the impact of activities to ensure they effectively address truancy.
  • Attend school and community meetings to advocate for student needs.
  • Deliver workshops or group sessions focused on topics such as attendance, time management, and goal setting.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all school district and organizational policies.
  • Maintain regular contact with the students and provide support and encouragement.
  • Assist the student in developing a personalized success plan tailored to their individual needs and identify both short-term and long-term academic goals.
  • Attend weekly department meetings.
  • Identify students requiring special assistance; determine what is needed for student success; develop and implement plans for students not meeting academic expectations.
  • Administer assessments.
  • Utilize data to ensure program measurables are met and that students are receiving the full benefits of the program.
  • Foster a collaborative and respectful team environment by being courteous, supportive, and open to feedback, while actively sharing the workload during events and maintaining a positive attitude towards colleagues.
  • Be available for emails and phone calls during operating hours: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with young people and families, preferably in an educational or social service setting.
  • Experience working in diverse and under-resourced communities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of youth development, trauma-informed care, and risk factors for absenteeism.
  • Understanding school attendance policies, student support frameworks, and educational systems.
  • Familiarity with community-based services and local resources.
  • Principles of case management, including documentation and follow-up.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse family structures and lived experiences.
Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with youth and families.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication across different audiences.
  • Motivational interviewing, de-escalation, and conflict resolution (Restorative Practice).
  • Time management and ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Data tracking, analysis, and basic proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, and Salesforce.
