Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are a founder-led, profitable, and growing company. We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems to oversee the coordination and completion of complex customer-facing projects, acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers.

This role involves managing projects that deliver Ubuntu images on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. It requires building strong relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and internal departments.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects through their entire lifecycle, ensuring goals are met for both Canonical and clients.
• Deliver engineering professional services for assigned projects.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
• Develop project statements of work and maintain project schedules.
• Obtain client agreement on schedules and work items.
• Ensure projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources.
• Manage risk mitigation and technical issues.
• Maintain communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.
• Keep management informed of project status.
• Identify and address engineering requests outside existing contracts.
• Advocate for Canonical technologies to customers.
• Support work across different time zones and non-traditional hours.

Requirements

• Proven project management experience in engineering services, software development, and field engineering.
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent teams, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and partnership-building skills.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
