Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems to oversee large, complex customer-facing projects, acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers. This role involves managing projects that deliver Ubuntu images on devices like robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. It requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and internal teams.

Location: Remote in the AMERICAs region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their entire lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering professional services
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Drafting and maintaining project schedules
• Securing client approval for schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are completed within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Resolving technical issues to achieve delivery outcomes
• Maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables
• Keeping management updated on project status
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Promoting Canonical's technologies to customers
• Supporting support for different time zones and non-traditional hours as needed

Requirements:

• Proven project management experience in engineering services, software development teams, and field engineers
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open-source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills; experience building partnerships
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year
