Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems at Canonical. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of project delivery, and acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving the delivery of Ubuntu images on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This is a high-profile position requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other departments.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities

• Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering professional services for projects
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Drafting and maintaining project schedules and plans
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Driving technical issues to resolution
• Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables
• Updating management on project status
• Identifying and addressing custom engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Promoting Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering services projects and software development teams
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, preferably in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year
