Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers. You will manage projects involving Ubuntu image delivery on various devices including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile position requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and internal teams.

Location: This role is remote, based in the Americas region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering services for assigned projects
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Creating and maintaining project schedules and plans
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Addressing technical issues to achieve delivery outcomes
• Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders
• Managing third-party deliverables
• Updating management on project status
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Promoting Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours

Qualifications:

• Proven project management experience in engineering services, software development teams, and field engineers
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, ideally in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open source software, and computer architecture
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships and working with demanding sponsors
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times per year
