Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems to coordinate and complete large, complex customer-facing projects, acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers. You will manage projects involving Ubuntu image delivery on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This is a high-profile role requiring strong relationship-building skills with team members, customers, vendors, and other departments.

Location

This role is remote, based in the Americas region.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects throughout their lifecycle, meeting goals for Canonical and clients.
• Deliver engineering professional services for projects.
• Work with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
• Develop project statements of work and maintain project plans.
• Obtain client agreement on schedules and work items.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and resources.
• Manage risks and technical issues to ensure successful delivery.
• Maintain communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Manage third-party deliverables and keep management informed.
• Identify and advocate for suitable Canonical technologies to clients.
• Support work across different time zones and non-traditional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering services projects, software development teams, and field engineers.
• Proven success managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source software, and computer architecture.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and partnership-building skills.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to four times a year.
