We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems at Canonical

As a Project Manager for Canonical's Devices business, this role is responsible for the coordination and completion of large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of project delivery and acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving the delivery of Ubuntu images on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This is a high-profile position requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other Canonical departments.

Location: Remote in the AMERICAs region.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet Canonical and client goals
• Delivering engineering professional services for projects
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Creating and maintaining project schedules
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Driving technical issues to resolution
• Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables
• Updating management on project status
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Promoting Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting work across different time zones and hours as needed

Candidate requirements:

• Proven project management experience in engineering services and software development
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project teams, ideally in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open-source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year
