Job description

Location: New York, NY

We are representing a quantitative trading and research firm operating at the intersection of mathematics, technology, and market structure. The firm designs, builds, and deploys systematic strategies in U.S. equities with a relentless focus on rigor, discipline, and continuous improvement.

As the firm enters its next phase of growth, it is investing heavily in the operating infrastructure that supports its research and trading platform. To support this effort, the firm is hiring a Project Manager to design and lead its project management function across technology and research.

This is a foundational hire. The successful candidate will build the firm’s project management system from the ground up, introduce disciplined PMO practices, and become the connective layer between leadership, engineers, and quantitative researchers.

This role is designed for a technically fluent Project Manager who has worked directly with software engineers and data or research teams. Candidates whose background is primarily regulatory, audit, PMO governance, or non-technical domains are unlikely to be a fit.

The Role

The Project Manager will own how work is planned, prioritized, sequenced, and delivered across the firm’s core technology and research teams. The mandate is to ensure that the highest-value initiatives are clearly defined, properly resourced, and delivered with transparency and accountability.

This role serves as the primary interface between trading and research teams and the core development group, translating real-world trading and research needs into well-scoped, executable development work.

Key Responsibilities
Cross-Team Alignment
  • Serve as the primary bridge between Core Development and Research & Trading
  • Establish shared understanding of priorities, dependencies, and timelines
  • Translate research and trading objectives into actionable development plans
  • Facilitate clear, disciplined communication across teams
Project Management Infrastructure
  • Implement and own the firm’s project management platform (Jira or equivalent)
  • Design workflows, boards, and reporting aligned to how work actually happens
  • Evaluate and integrate Git and development tooling where it improves delivery and visibility
  • Implement the firm’s internal priority-scoring framework
  • Partner with leadership to ensure scoring reflects strategic importance, urgency, return, and effort
  • Use this framework to drive planning, sequencing, and trade-off decisions
  • Audit and rationalize the existing backlog across teams
  • Re-score initiatives using the agreed framework
  • Load work into the system with clear ownership, milestones, and sequencing
  • Continuously adjust priorities as the business evolves
Workflow & Delivery Management
  • Track progress and surface risks early
  • Proactively resolve bottlenecks
  • Provide concise, high-signal reporting to leadership
  • Drive accountability while respecting the realities of complex technical work
Candidate Profile
  • 2–4 years of project management experience in a technical or product-driven environment
  • Background in a formal PMO with exposure to structured governance and delivery standards
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or similar frameworks, applied pragmatically
  • PMO or project management certification (PMP, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) required
  • Comfortable working with engineers, quantitative researchers, and senior leadership
  • Strong judgment around prioritization and sequencing in ambiguous environments
  • Clear, direct communicator with strong follow-through
Why This Role Is Different
  • You are building the operating system, not inheriting one
  • You will bring real PMO discipline into a high-performance quantitative trading environment
  • You will work directly with senior leadership, researchers, and engineers
  • Your impact will be visible in how the firm operates every day
Culture

The firm values:

  • Intellectual honesty over politics
  • Accountability without ego
  • High standards paired with mutual respect
  • Continuous learning and thoughtful iteration

Market-aligned for early-to-mid-career Project Managers with PMO backgrounds in fintech and quantitative trading in New York:

  • Bonus: Performance-based
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health coverage, 401(k), and paid time off
  • Total Compensation: Competitive with leading fintech firms
