Project Manager Reporting to: Operations Manager Location: Germany

Buttimer Engineering is a diversified engineering company specialising in bulk materials handling systems and high-quality steel fabrication. We deliver design, fabrication, procurement, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and full turnkey engineering projects across a wide range of industries, from rural installations to large-scale international ports.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a German Meister qualification in Plumbing (SHK) to lead the successful delivery of large-scale mechanical and plumbing projects.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of project execution, from planning and procurement through installation, commissioning, and final handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Delivery

• Lead project planning, execution, and delivery in line with contractual requirements.
• Develop and manage project execution plans, programmes, and key milestones.
• Coordinate labour, materials, subcontractors, and resources to achieve project objectives.
• Monitor project progress using KPIs, look-ahead schedules, and reporting tools.
• Manage project budgets, cash flow, and cost control.
• Monitor project margins and identify risks to profitability.
• Oversee variations, change orders, and subcontractor accounts alongside the commercial team.

Procurement & Supply Chain

• Coordinate procurement schedules and manage long-lead items with Procurement team.
• Ensure timely delivery of materials and subcontractor performance.
• Verify compliance with project specifications and technical requirements.

Technical & Design Coordination

• Coordinate with clients, consultants, design teams, and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with German regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
• Lead and motivate site management teams and subcontractors.
• Oversee installation activities, logistics, off-site manufacturing, and quality inspections.
• Drive programme performance through regular planning and progress meetings.

Health, Safety & Quality

• Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation and company safety standards.
• Implement QA/QC procedures and maintain high-quality project delivery.
• Conduct risk assessments, review RAMS, and promote a strong safety culture.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for clients.
• Chair progress meetings and provide regular project reports.
• Manage client expectations and resolve issues professionally and proactively.

Project Controls & Reporting

• Maintain accurate project documentation, RFIs, technical submissions, and progress reports.
• Track project risks, constraints, programme status, and commercial performance.
• Ensure documentation is complete for project close-out and handover.
• Plan and manage testing and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate snagging, defect resolution, and final inspections.
• Deliver successful project handover, including O&M manuals and as-built documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of project planning, budgeting, procurement, and commercial management.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of German construction regulations, HSE, and quality standards.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency with MS Project and Microsoft Office (Primavera experience desirable).
• Experience delivering data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or large commercial projects.
• Experience managing commissioning and project handover.
• Knowledge of Lean Construction and modern project delivery methods.
