Hunter Recruiting is seeking a Project Manager to lead engineering and capital equipment projects from kickoff through closeout in the St. Louis area.

You will serve as the primary liaison for customers and vendors, coordinating cross-functional teams to meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements. The role requires 5–10 years of project management experience in engineering or capital projects, with strong skills in planning, risk management, and cost control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of project management experience in engineering, industrial equipment, or capital projects.
  • Experience in managing industrial fabrication or custom-engineered equipment projects.
  • P.E. license is preferred but not required.
  • Strong scheduling, budgeting, cost control, risk management, and contract administration skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects.

Job description

The Project Manager is responsible for leading engineering and capital equipment projects from contract award through project completion. This role oversees all aspects of project execution, including safety, budget, schedule, fabrication, quality, and customer satisfaction. Serving as the primary point of contact for customers and vendors, the Project Manager coordinates cross-functional engineering teams, manages project risks, and ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to contractual requirements.

  • Lead the execution of engineering and equipment-based projects from kickoff through closeout.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and vendors, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of technical and commercial issues.
  • Develop and implement project execution plans, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate cross-functional engineering teams and facilitate regular project meetings.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, and overall performance to ensure successful delivery.
  • Prepare monthly project reports and present project updates to leadership.
  • Review and approve project requisitions, ensuring alignment with project scope and budget.
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor performance, including scope, quality, delivery schedules, and payment approvals.
  • Support fabrication activities, including coordination with manufacturing facilities and field operations as needed.
  • Partner with accounting to ensure timely customer invoicing and accurate financial reporting.
  • Identify, develop, and negotiate contract change orders, including associated cost and schedule impacts.
  • Conduct project closeout activities, including documentation, lessons learned, and customer acceptance.
  • Support proposal development efforts by contributing project execution strategies and technical input.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and global project execution teams to optimize project delivery.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to support project execution, customer meetings, vendor visits, and fabrication oversight.

Project Manager Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of project management experience managing engineering, industrial equipment, or capital projects.
  • Experience managing industrial fabrication or custom-engineered equipment projects is highly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, cost control, risk management, and contract administration.
  • Experience managing customer relationships, vendor performance, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation and communicate effectively with technical teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing change orders, project financials, and contractual requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Experience working with international teams, customers, and suppliers is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel globally approximately 4–8 times per year.
