Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CMMS.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on short- and long-term goals.

Job description

We are seeking a Project Engineer to lead and execute capital and major expense projects within a manufacturing environment. This role requires a strong technical foundation across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical systems, and process engineering. The Project Engineer will serve as the primary project leader, managing projects from concept through implementation while coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage capital and major expense projects from initiation through completion.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to develop project scopes, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Prepare project funding requests and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and recommend equipment, technologies, and services.
  • Develop project schedules, establish milestones, and coordinate resources to meet project objectives.
  • Procure project-related equipment, materials, and services.
  • Coordinate project activities with operations, maintenance, engineering, and external contractors to minimize disruptions and maintain project timelines.
  • Balance project execution with ongoing manufacturing operations to ensure minimal impact on production.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, environmental regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Monitor and control project expenditures to maintain budget objectives.
  • Track project performance and communicate progress through established reporting tools and processes.
  • Analyze project results against schedules, budgets, and operational goals, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Provide engineering design and technical expertise, including calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, and company requirements.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, industry best practices, and process improvements to support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing, process industries, pulp and paper, chemicals, metals, or similar industrial operations is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity throughout the workday.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone or electronic means.
  • Occasionally required to reach, bend, and lift materials.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess visual capabilities necessary for reviewing engineering drawings, equipment, and project documentation.
  • Manufacturing and industrial facility environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical equipment and varying environmental conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to elevated work areas, airborne particles, noise, vibration, humidity, and other industrial conditions.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
