Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years PM/controls/engineering/construction in the utility sector, OR 9+ years outside the utility sector.
• PMP certification strongly desired.
• Direct experience with electric utilities, grid modernization, or energy/electric industry is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute project strategy for multi-year initiatives.
• Manage workstreams, detailed plans, schedules, costs, resources, contingencies, and communication plans.
• Oversee budget tracking, financial reporting, and PMO governance.
• Coordinate vendor tasks and maintain status communication across internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify, analyze, and mitigate project risks; develop contingency plans.
• Facilitate operating reviews (DOR/WOR/MOR) and ensure thorough project documentation.

Position Summary

An advanced energy innovation initiative is seeking an experienced, career-level Senior Project Manager to join the team behind the Alpha Project-a high-visibility effort developing an advanced energy load management device to enable widespread electrification.

Operating within a dedicated Innovation Accelerator framework, this role leverages startup methodologies to foster transformative energy products and services. The Senior Project Manager will exercise judgment and discretion to manage all aspects of project development and implementation through 2027, serving as the primary point of contact for multi-year, high-visibility deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Strategy & Execution: Apply, adapt, and innovate project management techniques for complex, multi-year initiatives that may be loosely defined or require creative approaches.

• Workstream & Schedule Management: Develop and secure commitments on detailed work plans, including critical paths, timelines, schedules, costs, resource allocation, contingencies, and communication plans.

• Financial & Compliance Tracking: Oversee budget tracking, financial reporting, and compliance with PMO standards. Manage tactical implementation plans and workstream structures (e.g., 1-3-10 frameworks).

• Vendor & Stakeholder Integration: Manage vendor tasks, track and review vendor deliverables, and maintain clear, consistent status communication across all internal supporting organizations and external stakeholders.

• Risk & Performance Management: Identify, analyze, and mitigate project risks; construct contingency plans; assess whether project objectives remain achievable; and address performance issues proactively.

• Governance & Meeting Management: Facilitate key operational syncs, including Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Operating Reviews (DOR/WOR/MOR). Ensure thorough project documentation in system tools (e.g., Planisware) and capture lessons learned and best practices.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in project management, project controls, engineering, or construction within the utility sector, OR

  • 9+ years of relevant project management experience if coming from outside the utility sector.

• Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is strongly desired.

• Industry Knowledge: Direct experience with electric utilities, grid modernization, or the broader energy/electric industry is highly preferred.
