Job summary

Northworks is seeking a Project Manager to coordinate and advance architectural projects through design and construction phases in Chicago. The role emphasizes leadership, organization, and hands-on production to translate design direction into documented work.

You will manage schedules, coordinate with architects, directors, and clients, and oversee construction documentation quality while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development efforts.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional architecture project management experience.
  • Licensure not required, actively pursuing licensure preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit is required with strong 3D visualization skills.
  • Experience with Enscape, Lumion, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and documentation standards.

Job description

The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and advancing projects through all phases of design and construction in close collaboration with Architects, Directors, and Partners. The role requires a balance of leadership, organization, and direct technical production. The Project Manager translates design direction into coordinated documentation, maintains project schedules and consultant alignment, and ensures adherence to quality standards while supporting the delivery of complex commercial, hospitality, residential, and mixed-use projects.

Reports To: Studio Director / Lead Architect / Partner
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-time, in-office

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate projects across all phases, from schematic design through construction administration.
  • Work closely with Lead Architects, Directors, and Partners to implement design intent and maintain alignment with project goals.
  • Manage project schedules, consultant coordination, and internal team workflow.
  • Contribute directly to production efforts, including drafting, modeling, detailing, redline incorporation, and assembly of drawing sets.
  • Oversee the development, organization, and quality control of construction documents.
  • Lead project coordination meetings and maintain communication with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and coordinating with the construction team.
  • Monitor project progress relative to scope, budget, and timeline, elevating strategic decisions to studio leadership as appropriate.
  • Mentor junior staff and support adherence to firm documentation, quality control, and detailing standards.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, client relationship management, and proposal support as needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architecture.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Architectural licensure is not required, strongly prefer candidates actively pursuing licensure.
  • Proficiency in Revit is required. Strong 3D visualization and rendering skills are required. Experience with Enscape, Lumion, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction detailing, building codes, and documentation standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining technical excellence and design quality.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced studio environment.
  • Availability to work full-time on-site in Chicago, Illinois.
