Job description

PROJECT MANAGER – Lead Projects. Build Relationships. Drive Success.
More than a job. An opportunity to lead projects that matter.

At Cornerstone, we don't just manage construction projects, we build partnerships, develop leaders, and create lasting value throughout Alaska.

Since 1993, we've grown as a 100% Alaskan-owned company by delivering exceptional commercial construction projects while investing in the people who make them possible.

We're looking for a Project Manager who wants more than simply keeping projects on schedule.

We're looking for someone who wants to lead teams, build trusted client relationships, drive financial success, and help shape how some of Alaska's most challenging commercial projects are delivered.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, making decisions that matter, and leading people toward a common goal, this is the opportunity you've been looking for.

WHY PROJECT MANAGEMENT? (Why This Role Matters)

Project Managers sit at the center of everything we do.

Every major decision—from project startup through closeout—flows through this role.

You’ll influence:

  • Client satisfaction
  • Team success
  • Company growth

Your leadership determines whether projects simply get built—or become projects we’re proud to deliver.

What You’ll Do (The Impact You’ll Have)
Lead Projects from Startup Through Closeout

Own every phase of project execution while balancing schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client expectations.

  • Lead projects from contract award through final closeout and warranty.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate project startup activities including procurement, subcontracting, permits, and mobilization.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively resolve schedule, cost, quality, and resource challenges.
  • Ensure every project meets Cornerstone’s standards for safety, quality, profitability, and client satisfaction.
Build High-Performing Teams

Exceptional projects are built by exceptional people.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to Project Engineers and project staff.
  • Partner with Superintendents to align field and office operations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Foster accountability, communication, and collaboration across internal teams and subcontractors.
  • Develop future leaders by coaching team members and creating growth opportunities.
  • Create an environment where people understand expectations, take ownership, and perform at a high level.

Every decision impacts project profitability.

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and cost reporting.
  • Review contracts, subcontract agreements, and purchase orders to mitigate risk.
  • Negotiate and manage change orders while protecting Cornerstone's financial interests.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and procurement strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margins while maintaining quality and client satisfaction.
Build Lasting Client Relationships

Great relationships create repeat business.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and consultants.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and solutions proactively.
  • Build trust through responsiveness, professionalism, and consistent follow-through.
  • Lead project meetings and facilitate collaboration between all stakeholders.
  • Deliver an exceptional client experience that generates future opportunities.
Solve Complex Challenges

Construction is dynamic.

Strong Project Managers stay ahead of problems.

  • Identify risks early and implement practical solutions before they impact the project.
  • Coordinate design clarifications, RFIs, submittals, and procurement activities.
  • Balance competing priorities while maintaining schedule and budget.
  • Make informed decisions under pressure using sound business judgment.
  • Remove obstacles that prevent project teams from performing at their best.
Improve the Way We Build

The best Project Managers improve the organization—not just their projects.

  • Support continuous improvement across project management systems and workflows.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices with other project teams.
  • Help strengthen project startup, forecasting, documentation, and reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency across departments.
  • Contribute to business development, preconstruction, and strategic planning initiatives.
