Job description

SUPERINTENDENT – Lead the Jobsite. Develop People. Deliver Excellence.

More than a job. An opportunity to lead projects that matter.

At Cornerstone, we don't just build commercial construction projects; we build exceptional teams, trusted client relationships, and communities that last for generations.

Since 1993, we've grown as a 100% Alaskan-owned company by delivering some of Alaska's most complex commercial construction projects while investing in the people who make them possible.

We're looking for a Superintendent who wants more than simply managing subcontractors and schedules.

We're looking for someone who wants to lead people, establish a culture of safety and accountability, solve complex construction challenges, and deliver projects that clients are proud to own and employees are proud to build.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy leading from the front, and believe great leadership is measured by the success of your team, we'd like to meet you.

Why This Role Matters

Superintendents are the foundation of every successful project.

As the field leader, you establish the culture, pace, and expectations that drive every aspect of project execution. Your leadership directly influences safety, quality, productivity, schedule performance, client confidence, and the development of future field leaders.

You won't simply coordinate construction activities; you'll mentor Foremen, develop craft professionals, strengthen relationships with owners and design partners, and ensure every project reflects the professionalism and reputation Cornerstone has built throughout Alaska.

Every successful project starts with exceptional field leadership, and every exceptional Superintendent helps shape the future of our company.

You'll influence:

  • Jobsite safety and operational excellence
  • Construction quality and workmanship
  • Project schedule and productivity
  • Client satisfaction and long-term relationships
  • Development of Foremen and future Superintendents
  • Cornerstone's reputation throughout Alaska

Your leadership determines whether projects simply get completed or become projects we're proud to stand behind.

What You’ll Do (The Impact You’ll Have)

Lead Field Operations

Lead every aspect of field execution from project startup through final completion.

  • Direct daily field operations while maintaining safe, organized, and productive jobsites.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, equipment, materials, and self-perform crews.
  • Develop and execute short-term and long-term work plans that support project milestones.
  • Monitor daily production and adjust resources to maintain schedule commitments.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.

Build High-Performing Teams

Great projects are built by great people.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Foremen, craft professionals, and emerging field leaders.
  • Establish clear expectations while creating a culture of accountability, ownership, and respect.
  • Coach team members through challenges while recognizing and developing individual strengths.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure alignment between field and office operations.
  • Foster an environment where communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement are expected every day.

Deliver projects that exceed client expectations.

  • Monitor project progress to ensure work remains on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate inspections and proactively resolve quality issues before they affect production.
  • Review construction activities daily to maintain the highest standards of workmanship.
  • Identify field conflicts early and develop practical solutions that minimize delays.
  • Ensure successful project completion while protecting Cornerstone's reputation for quality.

Champion Safety

Safety isn't a program; it's how we lead.

  • Lead daily safety planning, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety plans.
  • Promote proactive hazard identification and immediate corrective action.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Create a culture where every employee understands that safety is everyone's responsibility.

Build Lasting Client Relationships

Strong relationships create repeat business.

  • Develop trusted relationships with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Represent Cornerstone professionally during meetings, site visits, and project coordination.
  • Maintain proactive communication regarding project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Resolve jobsite issues quickly while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Deliver an exceptional client experience that strengthens Cornerstone's reputation and generates future opportunities.

Improve the Way We Build

The best Superintendents improve the organization; not just their projects.

  • Participate in constructability reviews and project planning before work begins.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices that strengthen future projects.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, field systems, and operational improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by showcasing Cornerstone's commitment to operational excellence.
