Job summary

Responsibilities

• Support analysis of capital projects, including budgets, forecasts, actual costs, schedules, milestones, risks, and key performance drivers.
• Participate in capital planning and forecasting, identify trends, forecast movements, risks, and opportunities across the portfolio.
• Work with PMO cost, scheduling, and governance functions to understand how project performance is measured and communicated.
• Partner with Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, and Infrastructure Planning to understand the full lifecycle of a capital investment from need to execution.
• Participate in project reviews, planning sessions, lookbacks, and field visits to understand financial and operational dimensions of project execution.
• Analyze historical and active project data to identify factors affecting cost, schedule, and forecast predictability.
• Assist in developing analytical tools, dashboards, project controls, and executive-level reporting using Excel, Power BI, and other systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve PMO processes, data visibility, governance, and cross-functional decision-making.
• Complete an enterprise-focused summer capstone evaluating factors contributing to predictable outcomes and prototype a Project Readiness Index.

Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado, and the Powder River Basin in Northeast Wyoming. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Southwest Wyoming.

We're engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, recycling, treating and disposing of produced water for our customers. In our capacity as a natural gas processor, we also buy and sell natural gas, NGLs, and condensate on our behalf and our customers under certain gas processing contracts.

Job Summary:

The Project Management Office (PMO) Intern will gain broad exposure to how Western Midstream identifies, evaluates, approves, executes, and monitors capital investments. Working across the PMO and partnering with teams including Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, and Infrastructure Planning, the intern will develop an enterprise-level understanding of how strategic opportunities are translated into operating assets.

The internship will combine hands-on capital project analytics, project controls, process improvement, field and stakeholder exposure, and an independent capstone project. The intern will use actual project information to evaluate drivers of successful capital project execution and develop recommendations for improving project planning, predictability, and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support analysis of WES capital projects, including budgets, forecasts, actual costs, schedules, project milestones, risks, and key performance drivers.
• Participate in the capital planning and forecasting process and assist with identifying trends, forecast movements, emerging risks, and opportunities across the capital portfolio.
• Work with PMO cost, scheduling, and governance functions to understand how project performance is measured and communicated.
• Partner with Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Infrastructure Planning, and other stakeholders to understand the full lifecycle of a capital investment from initial business need through project execution and startup.
• Participate in selected project reviews, planning sessions, project lookbacks, and field/site visits to understand both the financial and operational dimensions of project execution.
• Analyze historical and active project information to identify factors associated with project cost, schedule, and forecast predictability.
• Support development and enhancement of analytical tools, dashboards, project controls, and executive-level reporting using Excel, Power BI, and other available systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve PMO processes, data visibility, project governance, and cross-functional decision-making.
• Complete an enterprise-focused summer capstone evaluating the characteristics that contribute to predictable project outcomes and develop a prototype Project Readiness Index or similar decision-support tool.
• Present capstone findings, recommendations, and lessons learned to PMO and senior WES leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business, Construction Management, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding how business, financial, and operational decisions intersect.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI or other analytical tools is preferred but not required.

Travel Requirements

• Approximately 10-20% travel, primarily for field visits to WES operating assets or active project locations.

Work Schedule

• This position utilizes a Hybrid work schedule: Monday-Thursday (9-hour days) and Friday (4-hour day), with occasional flexibility for business needs.
• WES reserves the right to change employee's schedule if it is required by operations.
