Job description

IES Communications is seeking a Project Lead - Structured Cabling to oversee structured cabling installation teams on large-scale commercial projects. This leadership role requires strong technical knowledge of voice, data, and fiber systems, along with the ability to manage field personnel, coordinate with project stakeholders, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate multiple Crew Leads and installation teams on large-scale structured cabling projects.
  • Provide field leadership, mentorship, and training to team members.
  • Monitor employee performance and initiate performance-related communications as needed, escalating concerns to the Project Manager when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct and document weekly safety meetings.
  • Promote productivity, accountability, and quality workmanship across all project activities.
Project Coordination
  • Partner with the Project Manager to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and meet customer expectations.
  • Coordinate labor resources, material needs, and project logistics.
  • Serve as the primary on-site customer contact for project-related questions and concerns.
  • Attend customer, construction, and facility meetings as required.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Perform structured cabling installations and oversee work involving voice, data, and fiber optic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during project execution.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections to ensure work meets industry and customer standards.
  • Coordinate voice and data cross-connects, telecommunications room activities, and system cutovers.
  • Review and mark up project drawings and maintain accurate red-line/as-built documentation.
  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and related construction documents.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Accurately complete and submit all required company and project documentation, including:
  • Timesheets
  • Work orders
  • Material transfers
  • Change orders
  • Tool transfers
  • Other project-related documentation as required
Additional Duties
  • Perform other responsibilities and assignments as directed by management.
Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to work on large construction sites and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work from ladders and at varying heights.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and identify audible signals.
  • Ability to travel throughout branch and regional territories as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of telecommunications, structured cabling, or related technical experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of supervisory, leadership, or management experience.
Technical Skills
  • Experience terminating and testing fiber optic cabling.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, project drawings, and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard installation and testing tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
