Job summary

DickAndersonConstruction is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Full-Time Project Estimator to join our Missoula, MT team. The role involves preparing detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, coordinating subcontractor pricing, and collaborating with Project Managers throughout the bidding process.

Occasional travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 5 years estimating experience in heavy civil or commercial construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing accurate cost estimates.
• Knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and production rates.

Responsibilities

• Maintains current and future project bid lists and assists in identifying potential projects by reviewing publications for opportunities and obtaining plans from owners/engineering firms.
• Collects information for the estimate by reviewing sites with the PM to note risks and assist in calculating job quantities.
• Studies and understands plans and specifications, including estimating assumptions, production rates, and construction methods; assist in requesting subcontractor quotes.
• Includes cost considerations for safety, trench boxes, confined space detection, safety meetings, and other project safety needs in bidding.

TheProjectEstimatorisresponsibleforpreparingdetailedcostestimatesforcommercialconstructionprojects.Thispositionreviewsplansandspecifications,performsquantitytakeoffs,coordinatessubcontractorpricing,andworkscloselywithProjectManagersthroughoutthebiddingprocess.Occasionaltraveltoprojectsitesisrequired.

ResponsibilitiesInclude:

• Maintainscurrentandfutureprojectbidlists:Maintainsestimatinglogofcurrentbiddingprojectsandfuture/potentialprojects.AssistsinlookingatWEBpages,newspapers,andotherpublicationsforfuture/potentialprojects.Obtainsplansfromowner/engineeringfirms.
• Collectsinformationfortheestimate:ReviewssitewithProjectManagertonotepotentialrisks.Assistsincalculatingjobquantities.
• Studiesandunderstandsplansandspecifications,includingestimatingassumptions,productionrates,andmethodsofconstruction.Assistsinrequestingsubcontractorquotes.Obtainsbidderslist.
• Makessafetyakeyfactorinbiddingbyincludingcostsoftrenchboxes,confinedspacedetection,safetymeetings,etc.,andotherprojectsafetyneeds.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’sdegreeinCivilEngineering,ConstructionEngineering,ConstructionManagement,orarelatedfieldpreferred(orequivalentexperience).
• Minimumof5yearsofestimatingexperienceinheavy civilorcommercialconstruction.
• Abilitytoreadandinterpretconstructiondrawings,specifications,andcontractdocuments.
• Experienceperformingquantitytakeoffsanddevelopingaccuratecostestimates.
• Knowledgeofconstructionmeans,methods,materials,andproductionrates.
• Experiencesolicitingandevaluatingsubcontractorandsupplierbids.
• Proficiencywithestimatingsoftware,MicrosoftOffice,andotherconstruction-relatedapplications.
• Stronganalytical,mathematical,andproblem-solvingskills.
• Excellentorganizational,communication,andtimemanagementskills.
• Abilitytomanagemultiplebidsandmeetdeadlinesinafast-pacedenvironment.
• Self-motivatedwiththeabilitytoworkindependentlyandaspartofateam.
• Validdriver’slicensewiththeabilitytotraveltoprojectsitesasneeded.
