Job summary

Helix Electric Inc. invites students to join its Internship Program as a Project Engineer. You will support the Project Manager on projects, serving as a liaison between field and office to help plan, execute and finalize objectives within schedule and budget.

The role offers a structured mentor program, exposure to multiple project types, and a pathway to grow in construction with hands-on responsibilities and strong safety emphasis.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous construction or internship experience preferred.
• Highly motivated with a tendency to take initiative.
• Basic math skills with ability to calculate and analyze data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
• Mindset for continuous improvements of department processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with project managers, subcontractors, engineers, and vendors to support teamwork and career development.
• Collaborate with the superintendent to track materials and coordinate with vendors for tracking and close-out.
• Act as a champion of Helix safety culture and monitor site safety.
• Assist with estimating using Accubid during Change Orders and pricing analyses.
• Work with the project team to analyze subcontract agreements and understand scope and pricing.
• Involved with material and equipment procurement.
• Coordinate with the BIM department on planning and coordination.
• Create and maintain detailed job logs (transmittals, submittals, RFIs).
• Monitor quality control and manage labor schedules with superintendents and PMs.
• Create prefabricated assemblies to aid in planning and on-time delivery.
• Walk jobs to learn the trade and apply knowledge to improve company performance.
