Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Project Engineer II to join our Utah team. The role requires interacting with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment and resolving field coordination issues with project team and participants.

The Project Engineer will review plans and specifications, manage quality, permits, and documentation, and mentor field engineers. A professional, proactive approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management.
• At least three years of construction experience.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Understanding of construction law and best practices.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Positive, professional attitude and customer service.
• Current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
• Implement the pre-construction quality plan and manage testing and inspection processes.
• Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses.
• Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non-Conformance Report.
• Manage, create, and distribute contract documents; establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence).
• Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing.
• Expedite submittals to align with project schedule; communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers.
• Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase; define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents.
• Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods as needed.
• Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion.
