Job summary

Baker Group in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a Project Engineer to support Project Managers and the business unit with technical and administrative tasks. You will assist with design, estimating, procurement, and coordination to ensure projects meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements.

The ideal candidate has a 4-year Engineering or Construction Management degree and 0–1 year of experience, with potential for progression to Project Manager.

Qualifications

• Strong technical skills with project management, accounting, scheduling, and document management tools.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and time tracking software.
• Ability to read drawings and understand contracts.

Responsibilities

• Provide sales and business development support to build client relationships, assist with design, material selection, estimating and proposals.
• Participate in planning and formulation to achieve required results within the business unit.
• Assist with day-to-day project coordination and administration: scope, budgets, value engineering, quality controls, sequencing, PO issuance, procurement, change orders, and contractor approvals.
• Help procure subcontractors and monitor their work quality and schedule.
• Maintain customer satisfaction through proactive scheduling coordination and feedback sharing.
• Attend jobsite visits and internal meetings, track actions, and provide follow-up.
• Ensure project performance complies with design/specifications and contribute to long-term revenue opportunities.
• Use standard documents like pre-proposal checklists, turnovers, subcontracts, warranties.
