Job summary

Our client in San Jose, CA seeks a Project Engineer to support project managers and field teams through the construction lifecycle, ensuring safety, on-schedule delivery, budget control, and top-quality results. The role involves coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, architects, and clients, reviewing plans and submittals, and assisting with schedules, procurement, and cost documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.
• 1–2 years of experience in commercial construction, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar platforms is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
• OSHA or other construction safety training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination.
• Review plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and project documentation.
• Prepare, track, and distribute RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and other project correspondence.
• Assist with project schedules, procurement, material tracking, and cost documentation.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients.
• Review subcontractor documents, invoices, change orders, and pay applications.
• Maintain accurate project records and ensure documentation is organized and current.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action-item tracking.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, estimates, and change-order pricing as needed.
• Support field teams with document control and resolution of construction-related issues.
• Monitor project progress and communicate potential schedule, cost, or coordination issues to the Project Manager.
• Assist with closeout activities, including punch lists, warranties, O&M manuals, and final documentation.
• Promote and maintain a strong culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and professionalism.
