Job summary

MKL Careers is seeking a Project Engineer to support project delivery on commercial, institutional, and mixed-use construction projects in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

This role offers a path to growth into project management for detail-oriented construction professionals, with coordination across subcontractors, architects, and engineers to resolve field questions and ensure documentation is audit-ready.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of construction project engineering experience in commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects.
• Working knowledge of construction documents, specifications, and submittal/RFI process.
• Familiarity with scheduling and project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field (or equivalent).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a project team.
• Willingness to be based in or commute to San Francisco job sites.

Responsibilities

• Support the project management team with submittals, RFIs, change orders, and daily project documentation.
• Track and maintain project schedules, logs, and closeout documentation.
• Review drawings and specifications to identify conflicts and coordination issues.
• Coordinate with subs, architects, and engineers to resolve field questions.
• Support the buyout process, including scope review and subcontractor coordination.
• Assist with quality control, punch lists, and closeout procedures.
• Attend and help lead project meetings, document actions and follow up.
• Support cost tracking, budget updates, and change order documentation.
• Assist in field with material tracking, procurement logs, and submittal coordination.
• Maintain project files and ensure documentation is organized and audit-ready.

About the Role

Our client, a general contractor with an active project portfolio across San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, is seeking a Project Engineer to support project delivery across commercial, institutional, and/or mixed-use construction projects. This is a strong opportunity for a detail-oriented construction professional looking to build a foundation for growth into project management.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the project management team with submittals, RFIs, change orders, and daily project documentation.
• Track and maintain project schedules, logs, and closeout documentation.
• Assist in reviewing drawings and specifications to identify conflicts, omissions, and coordination issues.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, architects, and engineers to resolve field questions and design clarifications.
• Support the buyout process, including scope review and subcontractor coordination.
• Assist with quality control, punch list tracking, and closeout procedures.
• Attend and help lead project meetings, documenting action items and following up on open issues.
• Support cost tracking, budget updates, and change order documentation.
• Assist superintendents with material tracking, procurement logs, and submittal coordination in the field.
• Help maintain project files and ensure documentation is organized and audit-ready.
