Job summary

The Raymond Group in San Diego is seeking a Project Engineer to provide project administration and operational support for commercial construction projects. You will track schedules, coordinate material submittals, and log field metrics to support profitability goals.

This full-time, exempt role requires coordinating between project managers, estimators, and field leaders, ensuring accurate contract documentation and timely project controls for successful project closeouts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with two years of commercial field experience in wall/ceiling industry or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Comfortable and proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel for daily tracking tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Track and update critical project logs, blueprints, and files daily to keep office and jobsite aligned.
  • Administer and route project requests, design changes, and material approvals between project team and client.
  • Check incoming work files, structural blueprints, and technical sheets for mistakes or mismatches.
  • Create material order lists and plan jobsite storage logistics for timely field needs.
  • Analyze daily field production logs to monitor progress and catch delays early.
  • Review quotes from different material suppliers to ensure best value.
  • Gather jobsite quality reports and safety data to fix basic compliance issues on site.
  • Compile and verify final warranties, manuals, and completion paperwork for smooth closeout.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field leaders to achieve team goals.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our work community in San Diego. In this full-time, exempt role, you will provide project administration and operational support for assigned commercial construction projects, ensuring the accurate processing of contract documentation and project controls. This position tracks schedules, coordinates material submittals, and logs field metrics to support job profitability goals.

Responsibilities
  • Project Documents: Track and update critical project logs, blueprints, and files every day to keep our office and jobsite teams completely aligned.
  • Tracking Paperwork: Administer and route all project requests, design adjustments, and material approvals cleanly between our project team and the client.
  • Double-Check Plans: Check all incoming work files, structural blueprints, and technical sheets side-by-side to catch and report any mistakes or mismatches early.
  • Material Tracking: Create material order lists and plan jobsite storage logistics so our field crews get what they need exactly when they need it.
  • Timeline Analysis: Analyze daily field production logs to monitor our progress and catch any project schedule delays early.
  • Vendor Pricing: Review and compare quotes from different material suppliers side-by-side to make sure we are getting the best overall value.
  • Safety Audits: Gather jobsite quality reports and field safety data to help our field crews fix basic compliance issues on site.
  • Project Wrap-Up: Compile and verify all final warranties, operations manuals, and completion paperwork to ensure projects close out smoothly.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with our project managers, estimators, and field leaders every day to support our overall team goals.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Qualifications: High school diploma or a GED with a minimum of two years of commercial field experience in the wall and ceiling industry OR a bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical field of study.
  • Software Skills: Comfortable and skilled at Microsoft Word and Excel for daily tracking tasks.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial building methods, construction rules, and basis project tracking systems like scheduling and cost tracking.
  • Blueprint Reading: Past experience reading and understanding architectural plans, blueprints, structural drawings, and project specifications.
  • Software Knowledge: Experience using common industry software tools like Bluebeam, PlanGrid, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Quick Bid, or BuzzBID.
  • Area Familiarity: Knowing the local construction community is a big plus.
