Job description

A-V Services Inc., a leading Audio/ Video company with multiple fortune 100 contracts within the financial, pharmaceutical and computing industries, seeks a Project Engineer.

The Project Engineer is responsible for designing, validating, and governing Audio Visual (AV) solutions throughout the project lifecycle. This role translates business, operational, and technical requirements into scalable, supportable, and standards-compliant AV solutions. Project Engineer serves as the technical authority for project-specific designs, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards while providing oversight of vendor deliverables, installation quality, commissioning activities, and system acceptance.

The position works closely with Product Engineering, Project Managers, consultants, system integrators, and operational support teams to deliver reliable AV environments that meet business needs while minimizing risk and maintaining lifecycle, supportability, and governance requirements.

Objectives:
  • Develop AV solutions that align with business requirements, operational needs, and enterprise standards.
  • Ensure technical consistency, quality, and compliance throughout design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Deliver accurate technical documentation, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and functional design specifications.
  • Govern project-specific exceptions, substitutions, and technical risks through established approval processes.
  • Support successful project delivery through technical oversight, vendor management, and quality assurance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned into future standards, products, and designs.
Role and Responsibilities:
AV Solution Development
  • Participate in project discovery activities and translate business, user, operational, and technical requirements into defined AV solutions.
  • Determine whether projects align with standard room designs or require custom engineering engagement.
  • Develop high-level system architectures, including signal flow, control strategy, audio and video design, network dependencies, infrastructure requirements, and operational workflows.
  • Apply approved products and technologies to project-specific use cases.
  • Identify gaps between requirements and standard solutions and document recommended exceptions or substitutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure alignment with approved standards, products, and lifecycle strategies.
Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
  • Develop and maintain project BOMs based on approved design requirements and site conditions.
  • Validate equipment, accessories, licenses, software, hardware, cabling, and network requirements.
  • Reconcile BOMs against technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and design documentation.
  • Review and evaluate vendor-submitted BOM revisions for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and scope alignment.
  • Maintain BOM revision history and ensure approved changes are reflected across project documentation.
  • Provide technical approval of BOMs prior to procurement release.
Technical Documentation
  • Develop technical design documentation describing system architecture, interfaces, networking, integration, control systems, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Create functional narratives that define user workflows, support models, expected system behaviors, failure conditions, and operational processes.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive documentation that enables consistent interpretation and execution across project managers, designers, programmers, installers, commissioning teams, and support organizations.
  • Update documentation as approved design modifications are implemented.
Standards Compliance & Governance
  • Review solutions against AV, infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, installation, programming, documentation, and commissioning standards.
  • Maintain project standards compliance reviews and identify non-compliant products, configurations, or installation practices.
  • Distinguish legitimate project-specific exceptions from standards violations.
  • Document technical, operational, business, and financial impacts associated with proposed exceptions.
  • Coordinate approval of substitutions and deviations through established governance processes.
  • Provide recurring field findings and exception trends to Product Engineering for consideration in future standards updates.
  • Define design intent sufficient for consultants and integrators to develop detailed construction documents and shop drawings.
  • Ensure consistency between system architecture, technical narratives, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Validate that all design deliverables accurately represent the intended solution.
  • Lead technical reviews of consultant and system integrator design submissions.
  • Evaluate schematics, shop drawings, signal flows, equipment schedules, rack elevations, cable schedules, UI designs, network documentation, and related technical deliverables.
  • Issue and track technical review comments through resolution and closure.
  • Verify incorporation of prior review feedback before recommending approval.
  • Assess product substitutions for technical equivalency, interoperability, supportability, and standards compliance.
  • Provide formal recommendations for approval, conditional approval, revision, or rejection.
Installation Quality Assurance
  • Validate that site conditions align with approved design assumptions.
  • Inspect installations for compliance with approved designs, standards, RFIs, and project documentation.
  • Document deficiencies, risks, and required corrective actions.
  • Escalate design-to-field conflicts and technical issues that may impact quality, schedule, or project cost.
  • Verify readiness for staging, installation, commissioning, and testing activities.
  • Support Project Managers in resolving RFIs, change requests, substitutions, and technical vendor claims.
  • Review commissioning plans and ensure testing procedures align with approved functional requirements.
  • Validate completion of integrator commissioning activities.
  • Confirm availability and completeness of all required drawings, configurations, source code, DSP files, test results, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in commissioning activities for complex or high-risk environments.
  • Support technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across design, programming, installation, infrastructure, and product-related issues.
  • Review punch-list items and validate corrective actions prior to project closeout.
  • Provide technical recommendations for system acceptance, conditional acceptance, or rejection.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across standards, products, templates, and solution designs.
