Job summary

Rush & Company in the Charlotte, NC area seeks a Project Engineer to lead CapEx and CIM initiatives, guiding projects from planning through handover. You will provide technical solutions, coordinate procurement, and drive automation and safety improvements in fiber manufacturing and fabrication operations.The ideal candidate will manage schedules and budgets, work with maintenance teams, and develop engineering documentation to support productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in project management and process improvement, preferably in Fiber Manufacturing or Processing.
  • Proven expertise in Process Automation and CIM.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the planning and implementation of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Report on compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Lead projects from quotation through execution, testing, and handover to production.
  • Ensure projects meet defined objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Provide technical calculations, designs, and concepts for new installations, modifications, and improvements.
  • Design and implement modifications including PLC programming, automation, and mechanical changes.
  • Prepare specifications for material and equipment purchases and manage procurement.
  • Collaborate with contractors to complete projects and modifications.
  • Utilize engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD) for drafting and layout.
  • Plan and execute projects using ERP systems.
  • Track and report progress of projects including budget status and timelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in collaboration with maintenance teams.
  • Develop technical documentation, reports, and drawings.
  • Perform engineering studies and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Create plant/equipment layouts to maximize throughput and efficiency.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and resource schedules for assigned projects.

We are working with a leading manufacturer of nonwoven fibers and foam products made in the USA for over 50 years. With 8 locations in the US (and 1 in Canada) they produce products for the home furnishings, bedding, institutional, medical, pet, aviation, flooring, filtration, and automotive markets.

Due to growth, the company is looking for a Project Engineer to be located in one of their NC facilities located north of Charlotte, NC. The position comes with a competitive base salary and benefits. This position will report to the Business Unit Leader while working closely with Plant Managers, VP Manufacturing, and the VP of Engineering on projects related to CAPEX, Continuous Improvement, Automation, etc.

We are seeking a Project Engineer to lead Capital Expenditure (CapEx) projects, Continuous Improvement initiatives, and process enhancements within the organization. This role supports Fiber Manufacturing and Fabrication operations by maintaining equipment, providing technical solutions, and leading process automation and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) initiatives. The ideal candidate will be skilled in project management, troubleshooting, and implementing innovative solutions that drive productivity and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proven expertise in Process Automation and CIM
  • Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management principles related to CIM
  • Deep understanding of engineering theories, principles, and practices
  • Familiarity with applicable US codes and safety standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and sound independent judgment
  • Experience with cost control and budgeting
  • Proficiency in project planning and execution within ERP systems
