Job summary

Job description

We are working with a leading manufacturer of nonwoven fibers and foam products made in the USA for over 50 years. With 16 locations in the US and Canada, they produce products for the home furnishings, bedding, institutional, medical, pet, aviation, craft, retail, industrial, flooring, filtration, and automotive markets.

The company is looking for a Maintenance Manager to be located in one of their Mississippi facilities. The position comes with a competitive base salary and full benefits.

The Maintenance Manager ensures that all machinery and equipment operate as per applicable safety rules and regulations. It is Maintenance Manager’s responsibility to get the repairs, troubleshoot, modify, and improve, install, commission and de-commission different plant equipment and building maintenance activities and support plant maintenance activities along with his team with an objective to reduce downtime and increase throughput. Position highly requires competence in Management skills combined with hands on experience of Mechanical and automation troubleshooting and repairing, knowledge and understanding of foam and fiber processing equipment.

Job Duties
  • Ensure compliance with government and safety regulations and company safe working practices
  • Make sure to be “safety” certified to do proposed work ex confined space, working on heights etc.
  • Ensure company HS&E and other policies are complied with
  • Plan and direct activities related to design, modification and repair of machinery, mechanical and automation components of production equipment in a manufacturing environment, as well as facilities and ground maintenance
  • Able to assign a task / project to the team members and get them completed from start to finish successfully
  • Ensures a clean and organized maintenance shop and fabrication area, and critical spare parts inventory
  • Oversee the installation, removal, repair, maintenance and operation of automated machinery and equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Computer Numeric and other control instruments
  • Responsible to identify the problems / troubleshooting and eliminate root cause to reduce downtime and scrap, increase throughput and sustainability
  • Ensures smooth operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by scheduling timely preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions
  • Verification of completed work / tasks to ensure 100% on-time operational start ups of equipment
  • Ensures facility maintenance and grounds are maintained to corporate excellence standards.
  • Assess/ Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments and advise the maintenance team accordingly
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Liaise with different contractors, vendors / suppliers to get the task / project completed
  • Implement plant improvements and implement as required to improve productivity and reduce downtime
  • Manage Maintenance inventory, order materials and equipment as required. Ensure inventory is clean, well-organized, and accurately accounted for
  • Lead maintenance inventory reduction initiatives and overall maintenance inventory cost reduction with strategic supplier partnerships
  • Ensure the effective leadership, evaluate and development core competencies and implement training for the maintenance department staff
  • Monitor, measure and improve predictive and preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime and internal scrap using CMMS effectively
  • Monitor, analyze and report on key performance metrics for department
  • Solve issues utilizing troubleshooting and root cause analysis tools Participate as key member of management team in the implementation of lean manufacturing practices
  • Responsible for specification and initial selection of plant related equipment to improve the effectiveness of operation
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and participate in discussions to resolve the issues
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Requirements
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience, and five (5) years of Maintenance Mechanic experience preferably in Fiber or textile Manufacturing and processing
  • Experience with Computer Integrated Manufacturing system (CIM)
  • Experience working with PLC and VFD Programming and troubleshooting
  • Experience in Process automation, Preference fiber processing/ Manufacturing environment
  • Able to work in different shifts and weekends as and when required to complete project/ task
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical theories and principles
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-technical team members in a clear manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of Local/ regional electrical and safety standards
  • Experience and licensed/ trained in forklift and scissor lift
  • Able to work in confined space with proper training
  • Work experience with fire alarms preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of required code for operation’s geographical area
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in written
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Able to apply right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems
