SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER Deployable Energy Position Summary Senior, hands‑on engineering professional leading technical execution across complex nuclear engineering work streams. The Senior Project Engineer provides project‑level technical leadership by integrating schedules, engineering deliverables, testing activities, suppliers, risks, decisions, and cross‑functional dependencies. The role drives disciplined execution during design development and testing, moves work from decision through completion, mentors less‑experienced engineers, and serves as a key interface among the Project Manager, engineering leadership, discipline leads, and external partners.
Functional Scope
- Technical Project Execution - Coordinate assigned engineering work packages, deliverables, milestones, and technical dependencies.
- Cross-Functional Coordination - Connect Mechanical, Electrical, Reactor Physics, Thermal-Fluids, Systems Engineering, Drafting/Design, Quality, Testing, Supply Chain, Licensing/Regulatory, and Project Controls.
- Schedule & Action Management - Maintain near-term schedules, action registers, priorities, dependencies, and milestone tracking supporting engineering execution.
- Engineering Deliverables Coordination - Track drawings, calculations, specifications, test inputs, supplier information, technical decisions, and other project deliverables through closure.
- Testing & Development Support - Coordinate technical readiness for testing, design updates, issue resolution, supplier activities, and engineering reviews.
- Risk & Issue Coordination - Identify execution risks, constraints, and blockers; drive ownership, track closure, and elevate when required.
- Change & Configuration Coordination - Support controlled technical changes and ensure affected disciplines, documentation, actions, and schedules remain aligned.
- Supplier & Partner Coordination - Support technical engagement with suppliers, fabricators, laboratories, contractors, and external engineering partners.
- Project Reporting - Prepare concise status updates, action logs, decision records, forecasts, and project communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day technical execution of assigned engineering projects, major work packages, or cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Translate project objectives into integrated execution plans with clear scope, engineering tasks, accountable owners, milestones, due dates, interfaces, and decision points.
- Lead cross-functional meetings, action management, technical follow-through, trade-off discussions, and issue resolution while maintaining alignment with discipline technical authorities.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables with testing, quality, procurement, suppliers, laboratories, and project controls.
- Maintain visibility of scope, schedule, risk, technical dependencies, and approved changes affecting project outcomes.
- Support design reviews, test-readiness reviews, supplier reviews, and project decision points.
- Escalate blockers early and help develop practical options for resolution.
- Maintain disciplined project documentation, action logs, decision records, and change/configuration records.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to project engineers and early-career team members, reinforcing effective execution practices, accountability, and sound engineering judgment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Typically 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including substantial responsibility for project engineering, multidisciplinary technical coordination, or execution of complex hardware programs.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering work, technical deliverables, schedules, risks, interfaces, and decisions on complex hardware projects.
- Strong technical judgment and systems-level Understanding sufficient to identify interfaces , challenge assumptions , resolve execution conflicts, frame decisions, and resolve matters appropriately without displacing discipline technical authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through.
- Demonstrated ownership and ability to operate effectively in a lean, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nuclear energy, power generation, aerospace, defense, EPC/EPCM, advanced technology, or another highly regulated / safety-critical environment.
- Experience supporting first-of-a-kind programs, complex hardware development, prototype/test programs, or technical-development projects.
- Exposure to Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Jira, Smartsheet, or comparable scheduling / work-management tools.
- Experience coordinating suppliers, fabrication, testing, procurement, manufacturing, laboratories, or technical-development activities.
- Familiarity with configuration management, quality systems, requirements management, document control, or formal change-control practices.
- Professional Engineer licensure, PMP certification, or another relevant engineering or project-management credential preferred.
