Responsibilities

• Support project managers, superintendents, and field crews with day-to-day project engineering tasks.
• Review plans, drawings, specifications, and field documentation.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, material tracking, and change-order documentation.
• Coordinate field work, subcontractors, schedules, deliveries, RFIs, submittals, and records.
• Support grading, excavation, earthwork, utilities, and site construction.
• Prepare and maintain daily reports and project documentation.
• Communicate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and crews.
• Learn and support construction tech such as Trimble, GPS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and similar systems.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are working for an established Chicago-area civil and earthworks contractor with project work near Bradley, Illinois. They are seeking an entry-level Project Engineer who wants hands-on experience with civil construction, earthwork, grading, quantities, drawings, field coordination, and project management.

This is a strong first step for a recent graduate in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with up to two years of experience are welcome. Internship, co-op, surveying, estimating, materials-testing, or site/civil construction exposure is helpful but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support project managers, superintendents, and field crews with day-to-day project engineering tasks.
• Review plans, drawings, specifications, and field documentation.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, material tracking, and change-order documentation.
• Help coordinate field work, subcontractors, schedules, deliveries, RFIs, submittals, and project records.
• Support grading, excavation, earthwork, utilities, and other site/civil construction activities.
• Prepare and maintain accurate daily reports and project documentation.
• Communicate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and crews.
• Learn and support construction technology such as Trimble, GPS or machine control, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and similar systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Recent or upcoming bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
• Zero to two years of relevant experience; internships and co-ops count.
• Interest in excavation, grading, earthwork, utilities, infrastructure, or heavy civil construction.
• Comfortable reading plans or motivated to develop strong plan-reading and quantity skills.
• Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Trimble, GPS, surveying, or takeoff tools are a plus.
• Willing and able to work on-site near Bradley, Illinois.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• $70,000-$80,000 base salary, depending on experience.
