Job summary

HC Company is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our commercial construction team. This is not an entry-level PE position; you will drive project controls from preconstruction through closeout and work alongside PMs and Superintendents on diverse commercial projects.

As an employee-owned ESOP, our team shares in the success of each project. You will manage RFIs, submittals, procurement, and closeout while coordinating with owners, architects, and subs to keep projects on schedule

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Project Engineer or comparable commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of RFIs, submittals, drawings, specs, procurement, change management, and closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, project documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to identify scope gaps and constructability concerns.
  • Coordinate with PMs, Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners to resolve issues.
  • Support subcontractor buyout, contracting, cost tracking, and material procurement.
  • Track long-lead materials and critical activities to support schedule commitments.
  • Participate in meetings (project, subcontractor, pre-installation, coordination).
  • Support field operations through drawing interpretation, documentation, issue resolution, and coordination between trades.
  • Participate in QA/QC and site safety efforts.
  • Maintain accurate project information using Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, and MS Office.
  • Identify issues early, develop solutions, and communicate impacts to team.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced team members.

Project Engineer – Commercial Construction

HC Company is seeking an experienced Project Engineerto join our commercial construction team. This is not an entry-level PE position. We're looking for someone who understands the construction process, can take ownership of key project controls, and is ready to play an active role in driving projects from preconstruction through closeout.You'll work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents on a diverse portfolio of commercial projects, including healthcare, veterinary, education, industrial, and retail construction.

What You'll Do

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of Project Engineer or comparable commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent construction experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, drawings, specifications, procurement, change management, and project closeout.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and identify coordination and constructability issues.
  • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and independently drive assigned work to completion.
  • A team-oriented mindset and desire to continue developing toward increased project management responsibility.
