This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Electrical Design Engineer based in the United States.
This is a ground-floor opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to take ownership of building electrical design projects across New England. You'll work directly with a Founder and Principal Engineer in a small, fast-moving environment with minimal management layers. The role covers renovation and new-construction projects across multifamily, commercial, and historic adaptive-reuse properties. You'll lead designs spanning power distribution, lighting and controls, fire alarm, emergency power, and low-voltage systems. The position offers significant autonomy, direct client and project exposure, and the opportunity to influence how a growing engineering practice operates. It is fully remote and open to candidates nationwide, with a preference for Massachusetts or Rhode Island.
Accountabilities
- Lead electrical design for building renovation and new-construction projects, from initial concepts through detailed engineering and construction documentation.
- Design and coordinate power distribution, lighting and controls, fire alarm and life-safety systems, emergency and backup power, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform load calculations, service sizing, panel schedules, and code-compliance reviews in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Prepare clear construction documents, specifications, and technical deliverables while maintaining high standards for accuracy and constructability.
- Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and coordinate technical decisions with architects, contractors, utilities, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Manage remote and contract drafting or modeling resources to support project delivery without relying on a large internal CAD team.
- Take ownership of projects, proactively identify needs and risks, close open items, and continuously improve project standards, checklists, and workflows.
Requirements
- 5--7+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, with a strong focus on building or AEC electrical design.
- Professional Engineer licensure is not required, but candidates should be willing to pursue licensure with company support.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes, and life-safety requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical load calculations, service sizing, panel schedules, construction documents, specifications, and code reviews.
- Ability to carry a basic design through detailed engineering with minimal oversight and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience coordinating or managing remote drafting and modeling resources.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-engineers.
- Highly organized, self-directed, proactive, and comfortable working in a remote, fast-moving, founder-led environment.
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, follow-through, and continuous improvement.
- Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
Benefits
- Base salary of $120,000, with first-year total compensation of up to $150,000+.
- Profit-sharing of 1--9% of base salary annually.
- Quarterly bonus potential.
- 100% remote work, open to candidates anywhere in the United States, with a preference for Massachusetts or Rhode Island.
- Unlimited, fully flexible paid time off.
- Up to $10,000 sign-on bonus.
- $2,000 home office stipend, with unused funds rolling over to health and fitness expenses.
- Health and fitness stipend at the company's discretion.
- Full reimbursement for PE licensure and continuing education.
- Mileage reimbursement for site visits and business travel at the standard IRS rate.
- Opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and help shape a growing engineering firm from an early stage.
- Health insurance is not currently offered, but is planned as the firm grows.
