With offices nationwide, we engineer facilities that benefit the people who live, work, study, and play in them. Our team is made up of some of the brightest minds in the industry, and we are proud to foster a collaborative, innovative culture built on long-term relationships. This is a direct hire opportunity, filling a key role on an established multi-market team.

Job Description

The Project Engineer (Electrical) takes full ownership of assigned projects from planning through closeout — managing design, production, quality control, and financials across a diverse portfolio of project types. This role serves as the technical lead for the electrical discipline, coordinates cross-discipline efforts, and represents the firm directly to clients. You'll provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff, contribute to business development, and ensure every project is delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction. The Project Engineer refers final results to the Senior Engineer for QA/QC review.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Project Management
  • Develop proposals covering scope, design approach, schedule, deliverables, and fee
  • Build and implement project plans, lead internal kick-off meetings, and manage project files
  • Represent the firm at client meetings, document all communications, and coordinate with architects, owners, and other disciplines
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets, delegate tasks, resolve issues, and communicate staffing needs across project managers
  • Complete and maintain the Project Control Record (PCR) and assist with project set-up in BST
  • Conduct pre-bill reviews, manage invoicing per client schedules, and follow up on aged receivables
  • Proactively identify and communicate scope changes to secure additional fees
  • Provide accurate revenue claims and monthly Reported Percent Complete (RPC) updates; monitor profitability on all projects
  • Lead electrical design using Revit, serving as or supporting the engineer of record
  • Coordinate electrical design across all disciplines — architectural, mechanical, structural, plumbing, technology, and local jurisdictions
  • Perform and review engineering calculations including lighting photometrics (AGI or similar), short circuit/arc flash analysis (SKM or similar), generator sizing, voltage drop, and additional power systems analysis
  • Ensure BIM/contract requirements are met, schedule clash detection, and oversee corrections
  • Compose and modify project-specific specifications independently
Quality & Construction Administration
  • Lead QC reviews at each deliverable stage; arrange peer reviews on complex projects
  • Manage RFI responses and shop drawing submittals throughout full construction administration
  • Conduct site observations, document field conditions and deviations, and close out projects
Marketing & Business Development
  • Maintain and grow client relationships; support business unit marketing efforts
  • Prepare engineering fee proposals and provide technical input on larger pursuits
  • Represent the firm at presentations and promote it as an employer of choice
Staff Development & Continuing Education
  • Mentor junior engineers in design and project management techniques
  • Participate in interviews, candidate assessments, and performance reviews as applicable
  • Attend technical seminars, complete web-based trainings, and actively participate in professional organizations
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an architectural engineering consulting environment
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • ABET accredited bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering
  • Multi-market project experience required — including commercial buildings such as higher education, airports, municipal buildings, sports complexes, resorts, and/or theme parks
  • Demonstrated success managing moderate to complex projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction costs, life cycle analysis, and building codes
  • Proficiency with Revit and electrical analysis software (AGI, SKM, or similar)
  • Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with sustainable and high-performance building design
  • Familiarity with Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)
  • Active involvement in professional engineering organizations
Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited program required. PE licensure required.
