About RIS

Retail Information Systems provides cost-effective, highly configurable, and scalable point-of-sale and inventory control solutions to retailers worldwide.

RIS serves and consults with retail businesses ranging from small specialty stores to large multi-location operations. Our services include software and hardware implementation, custom programming, project management, technical support, and eCommerce solutions.

For more than three decades, Retail Information Systems has exceeded client expectations through outstanding customer service and deep knowledge of the retail technology industry. Our team combines functional knowledge, technical expertise, and hands-on experience to deliver effective, professional solutions for our customers.

The Opportunity:

The Project Coordinator organizes, coordinates, and drives customer projects from initial handoff through successful completion.

This role serves as a central point of communication between customers and internal RIS teams, including sales, accounting, technical support, customer support, and development.

The Project Coordinator is expected to keep projects moving, track outstanding tasks, follow up with responsible parties, communicate project status, and drive projects through completion and customer sign-off.

This position does not require programming experience, but the successful candidate must be comfortable working in a technical environment, learning new systems, and communicating with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Role Purpose:

Partner with internal teams including sales, accounting, technical support, customer support, and development to provide a seamless project implementation experience.

  • Coordinate hardware, software, custom programming, training, testing, and implementation activities as required by each project.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track project milestones, deadlines, dependencies, deliverables, and outstanding action items.
  • Follow up with customers and internal team members to ensure commitments are completed on time.
  • Identify project delays, risks, or unresolved issues and elevate them when appropriate.
  • Drive continuous improvements to RIS project and implementation processes.
  • Help ensure projects are completed successfully and obtain customer approval or sign-off at completion.
Key Objectives:
  • Onboard new customers and projects after the sales process is complete.
  • Review customer requirements and help develop an implementation plan based on business needs, scope, and timeline.
  • Schedule and participate in project meetings.
  • Document customer requirements, decisions, action items, ownership, and due dates.
  • Coordinate with technical staff and developers to obtain estimates and determine project requirements.
  • Prioritize multiple projects and maintain visibility into their current status.
  • Ensure customers receive timely updates throughout the project.
  • Coordinate testing, customer review, training, implementation, and go-live activities when applicable.
  • Help ensure customer expectations remain aligned with the agreed project scope.
  • Identify requests that may fall outside the original scope and elevate them for review before additional work is performed.
  • Drive projects toward successful completion rather than allowing outstanding tasks or decisions to remain unresolved.
  • Identify and recommend tools, procedures, and process improvements that can improve the customer experience and project delivery.
Experience & Skills:
  • Previous experience in project coordination, project management, implementation, customer service, or a similar role is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, technical staff, and management.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable learning technical concepts, software applications, and business processes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical procedures and project documentation.
  • Ability to recognize when a project is stalled and take appropriate action to move it forward.
  • Experience in retail technology, point-of-sale systems, software implementation, or custom development projects is a plus.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Someone Who:
  • Takes ownership of assigned projects and follow-up items.
  • Is highly organized and does not allow tasks to be forgotten after a meeting.
  • Is proactive rather than waiting to be reminded what needs to happen next.
  • Can identify what needs to be done, who is responsible, when it is due, and what the next step should be.
  • Is comfortable asking questions when requirements or responsibilities are unclear.
  • Can work effectively with technical and non-technical people.
  • Can keep customers informed even when an issue or delay is still being worked on.
  • Has strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Can balance customer service with project scope, deadlines, and internal resources.
  • Is dependable and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.
Position Details:
  • Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
  • Work Location: Onsite
  • This is not a remote position. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to the RIS office and work onsite during normal business hours.
Benefits:
  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance
Hours:
  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM CT to 8:00 PM CT.
