Job summary

Retail Information Systems in Houston is seeking a Network Administrator to maintain and optimize their technical infrastructure. The role includes monitoring network performance, managing devices, and collaborating with other departments to provide additional IT solutions.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience with network routers, switches, and firewalls. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. This is an onsite position, with medical benefits and time off provided.

Retail Information Systems (RIS) provides cost-effective, highly configurable and scalable Point of Sale and Inventory Control software solutions. RIS Systems has been providing solutions for retailers for 22 years and currently supports over 800 customers comprising over 3,000 stores. RIS’ flagship product, Retail Pro, is one of the leading point of sale and inventory control systems on the market today for small to mid-sized retailers, scaling up to large chain stores. RIS provides a complete end-to-end solution for retail businesses, with product offerings including mobile POS, integrated e-commerce, multi-channel marketing solutions, in-store analytics for traffic counting and conversions, loss prevention, web based reporting and tools for vendor catalog and purchase order integration. In addition, RIS provides experienced in-house customization services.

Job Description

The Network Administrator will be responsible for maintaining RIS' technical infrastructure. Basic task include:

  • Monitor the network for issues and be the primary contact with ISP
  • Install, modify and backup all network devices
  • Manage switch ports, VLAN configurations and update switches and routers
  • Install, manage and update firewalls
  • Monitor Intrusion IPS and IDS, reviewing alerts and reports and update as necessary.
  • Monitor and optimize WAN performance and devices
  • Monitor the network performance and resolve issues as required
  • Analyze traffic flow to identify issues and add capacity
  • Maintain documentation of network maps and IP assignments
  • Deploy new equipment and plan upgrades

In addition, this position will be client facing. As part of our ongoing commitment to assist our clients with their IT needs, the Network Administrator will work in conjunction with other departments to provide, and sell additional IT solutions and services. These may include such solutions as managed services, new store build outs, and network configurations and optimizations.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years experience programming and maintaining network routers, switches and firewalls
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, IT or related field preferred
  • Must be a team player with experience working with contractors and company personnel
  • Experience with MSSQL, MySQL, and/or Oracle a plus
  • Ability to operate in a professional work environment

Experience with point of sale systems, or the retail industry a plus
