Job summary

BMWC Constructors is seeking a Project Accountant to support the financial management of large-scale industrial construction projects from our Indianapolis headquarters. You will collaborate with project teams, accounting leadership, and field staff to ensure accurate billing, proper cost capture, and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Review payroll costs and labor hours for accurate allocation to projects.
• Collaborate with Accounting Manager and Project Managers on project setup and accounting needs.
• Manage accounts receivable and coordinate collections with project managers.
• Review and track accounts payable and subcontractor transactions.
• Generate project financial reports and ad hoc analyses.

Project Accountant

BMWC, a leading industrial construction company, is seeking a Project Accountant to join our team and support the financial management of large-scale industrial construction projects.

In this role, you'll work closely with Project Managers, Accounting leadership, field teams, customers, and other business partners to help ensure projects are accurately billed, costs are properly captured, and financial information is timely and reliable. You'll play an important role in supporting project teams throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects.

This position is based out of our Indianapolis, IN headquarters and may require occasional travel to project sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Project Accountant, you will:

• Perform WIP analysis and monitor the financial performance of assigned projects.
• Prepare and post billings for Lump Sum and Time & Material contracts, including AIA billing, Schedules of Values, and required supporting documentation.
• Review and reconcile job costs, billings, accounts receivable, and other project financial records, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Review and correct payroll costs and labor hours to ensure accurate allocation to projects.
• Partner with the Accounting Manager and Project Managers on project setup and ongoing project accounting needs.
• Perform accounts receivable functions and actively manage collections in partnership with Project Managers.
• Review, cost, post, and track accounts payable and subcontractor transactions for assigned projects.
• Generate and distribute project financial reports, including receivables and payroll reporting, and assist project teams with ad hoc reporting needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely project accounting records, financial systems, and supporting documentation.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, project accounting, or a related financial role
• Construction or project-based accounting experience preferred, including familiarity with job costing and WIP analysis
• Experience with Time & Material, AIA, or other construction contract billing preferred
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable, collections, accounts payable, and financial reconciliations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the technical aptitude to learn project accounting and ERP systems
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams, customers, vendors, and other business partners
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
