Concilio De Organizaciones Hispanas in Philadelphia is seeking a Program Specialist (Youth Development) to support a year-long violence-prevention program for youth in high-risk communities. You will supervise youth, guide activities, and help create a safe, engaging environment.

The role requires at least 2 years of youth work experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to mentor youth through curriculum and enrichment activities.

The Program Specialist (Youth Development) will ensure smooth delivery of activities and services for youth participants. This position will involve direct supervision, mentoring, and support for program youth, inclusive of facilitation of focused curriculum and leading and guiding youth in academic, recreational, and enrichment activities. The Program Specialist (Youth Development) will directly implement program activities that align with organizational goals, and maintain a safe and engaging environment. The role will also include chaperoning field trips and assisting the Program Coordinator (Youth Development), CBS Coordinator and/or CBS Director/Manager in ensuring the program runs smoothly throughout the year.Duties and Responsibilities:Supervise and Lead the Youth:Oversee the work of youth participants providing guidance, support, and mentorship.Ensure that youth participants are effectively engaging with other participants, activities, and following safety protocols.Hold regular check-ins with youth participants to monitor progress, address concerns, and ensure the quality of the program delivery.Lead Program Activities:Implement daily program activities, ensuring they align with the goals of the program and are developmentally appropriate for youth.Lead specific group activities or sessions, ensuring high levels of engagement, participation, and skill development.Ensure all activities are safe, fun, and foster positive behavior and personal development.Chaperone Field Trips:Act as a chaperone on field trips, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed, and that all participants have an enjoyable and educational experience.Guide youth during the trips, ensuring that behavior is appropriate and all logistical aspects are well-managed.Maintain Effective Communication:Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator (Youth Development), CBS Coordinator and/or CBS Director/Manager regarding progress, challenges, and needs for additional resources or support.Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders as necessary, providing updates on youth progress or program activities.Track and Monitor Youth Progress:Assist with tracking youth participation, progress toward goals, and behavioral or academic development throughout year-long program activities.Document and report on individual and group achievements, helping to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and program outcomes.Assist in Program Evaluation:Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of the year-long program, providing feedback on what worked well, areas for improvement, and suggestions for future programming.Assist in collecting feedback from youth participants to inform the overall program evaluation.Provide Support and Guidance to Youth Participants:Serve as a positive role model and mentor for youth, supporting their growth, confidence, and social-emotional development.Address any concerns or challenges youth participants may face, providing appropriate resources or support as needed.QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in education, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.Experience:At least 2 years of experience working with youth, preferably in a leadership, supervisory, or group facilitation role (summer camps, after-school programs, or youth development programs). Experience leading teams is highly desirable.Skills:Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage and motivate a team, providing clear guidance and direction.Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex or challenging situations effectively.Creative and adaptable, with the ability to engage youth in a variety of activities.Skilled at managing group dynamics and fostering teamwork.Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferredCertifications:CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or the ability to obtain prior to the start of the program.Personal Characteristics:Passionate about working with youth and committed to their growth and development.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Patient, flexible, and dependable with the ability to manage multiple tasks.Able to adapt to changes in program structure, schedule, and group needs.Working Conditions:Schedule:This is a full-time position running for the grant period October – September. Days of operation can vary from week to week, with the Program Specialist (Youth Development) providing direct service at least two days out of a standard business week. This program may operate on select Saturdays throughout the year. Hours are typically from 12:00 pm to 7:00 PM, though flexibility may be required for special events, field trips, or additional staff meetings.Location:The position will be based at Concilio Headquarters.Physical Requirements:This role may involve standing, walking, or participating in physical activities with youth for extended periods. Program Specialists (Youth Development) must be able to handle the physical demands of leading outdoor activities, assisting youth with various tasks, and supervising youth during field trips.
