Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Program Manager II - Waste & Environmental Programs (WEP) to lead the URM Workplace Health and Safety WEP team in strategic planning and execution of environmental, safety, and emergency programs on the Charleston campus and offsite locations.

This role emphasizes contract management, budget oversight, vendor relations, staff development, and cross-department collaboration to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Experience leading waste, environmental, safety, and emergency programs in healthcare or regulated settings.
• Strong contract management, vendor relations, and budget oversight capabilities.
• Ability to coordinate across departments and campuses to implement programs.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations (SC DHEC Infectious Waste, EPA RCRA).
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports (SC DHEC, EPA, air/water permits, stormwater).
• Manage site inspections, NOVs, and corrective actions; ensure compliant waste handling.
• Direct contract management strategies and vendor development for Charleston Market and partnerships.
• Develop strategic plans for Waste and Environmental Programs, Emergency Response, and Safety initiatives.
• Manage WEP program budget, monitor performance, and prepare leadership reports.
• Lead staffing and development for URM WEP team; oversee recruitment and coaching.
