Job summary

The University of Houston System seeks a Program Manager of Employer Relations and Experiential Learning to build and sustain employer partnerships for UHCL students. You will devise strategies to recruit employer partners, support placements for internships and projects, and coordinate on-campus recruiting events, job fairs, and career weeks to help students advance their job search.

  • Bachelor's degree required; three years of experience in employer relationships and community organizations.
  • Masters degree preferred and supervisory experience advantageous.

Job description

Department:Center for Career DevelopmentSalary:Commensurate with education and experience.

Description:

The Program Manager of Employer Relations and Experiential Learning develops and maintains relationships with potential employers of UHCL students. This position is responsible for devising strategies and plans to support the recruitment of employer partners, identifying and supporting placements for student internships, industry projects, and other experiential learning opportunities. The Program Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of all on-campus recruiting events, including job fairs, career weeks, networking events, and workshops to support students in their job search efforts.

Duties:

  • Develops relationships with employers to increase experiential learning opportunities for UHCL students.
  • Oversees internships, Hawk Job Shadow Program, and Corporate Partners Program in collaboration with the Director.
  • Maintains relationships with existing corporate recruiters through employer visits, telephone calls, email, and face-to-face communication.
  • Oversees strategic planning and assessment for employer outreach and development.
  • Responsible for the supervision, training, and professional development of assigned student employee(s).
  • Oversees social media and events student support staff ensuring events are posted in a timely manner while adhering to the established social media marketing strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Director, leads campus marketing activities for employer-related events and activities to ensure marketing materials are available through various communication channels.
  • Develops and manages systems for collecting information and reporting experiential learning outcomes and measurements tostakeholders.
  • Contributes to identifying new opportunities for students in disciplines that do not currently include work-integrated learning.
  • Oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of all departmental events, including major career fairs, career weeks, networking events, and similar events and programs.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, manages the departmental events calendar.
  • In collaboration with career coaches, develops employer led workshops on career readiness topics and delivers programming designed to inform and educate students on a broad range of career pathways.
  • Oversees Jobs4Hawks student registration and initiates marketing campaigns for activation and profile completion.
  • Leads training on Jobs4Hawks database while monitoring access for faculty and staff.
  • Oversees all incoming employer communications.
  • Attends staff and University meetings and professional conferences/meetings.
  • Covers required evening and weekend hours and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in education, business, social sciences, communication, public administration, or a related field.
  2. Minimum three years of experience working, developing, and maintaining relationships with employers and other community organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, educational leadership, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience supporting career services, career programs, and or job placement for students at a college or university career center.
  3. Previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of job search strategies, labor market supply/demand, and employer's recruitment and interviewing methodologies.
  • Ability to understand the employer engagement process, including the importance of the initial conversation and active listening.
  • Knowledge of student engagement and career services products and platforms.
  • Skills in utilizing student engagement platforms, or client-based CRMs to run reports and analyze data.
  • Ability to assess and problem solve effectively to address employer needs and formulate solutions.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively express thoughts and ideas verbally and through written communication.
  • Knowledge of supervisory best practices and staff development.
