Job summary

OHEL Children's Home and Family Services, through the CCSA program, seeks an educator to present substance use and behavioral addiction prevention to Jewish middle and high school students. The role involves conducting workshops, expanding the school base, and ensuring current program relevance.

Some evenings and Sundays are required, and travel to communities is expected. The ideal candidate has strong organizational and communication skills, plus experience with youth and families.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in mental health, social work/counseling, addiction or a related field.
  • Masters degree in social work, counseling or equivalent degree preferred.
  • Lived experience with addiction preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents, young adults, and groups preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Present educational programming to students grades 5-12 and other audiences as needed.
  • Supervise other educational presenters on site and as needed.
  • Liaise with current clients to schedule programming and meet requirements.
  • Travel to communities to build relationships and conduct programs.
  • Counsel school personnel on situations under supervision of Assistant Director.
  • Facilitate family support group if clinically qualified.
  • Create and update interactive educational programming for middle and high schools.
  • Identify, onboard and train new presenters.
  • Handle scheduling and travel arrangements for programs.
  • Stay up to date on addiction prevention education models.
  • Market programs to potential client schools and new markets.

Job description

Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction (CCSA), a program of Ohel, provides evidence-based educational programming in Jewish middle and high schools focusing on substance use and behavioral addiction prevention. CCSA also conducts awareness events on topics of mental health and addiction and manages support groups for family members impacted by addiction.

Ohel CCSA (Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction) is seeking an individual who is inspired by our mission and excited by the opportunity to educate our Jewish youth and community on the risks of substance use and behavioral addictions. This role will be instrumental in implementing and overseeing addiction prevention programs which includes conducting educational workshops, expanding our school base, and ensuring our programming remains relevant and current.

Responsibilities:
  • Present educational programming to students grades 5-12 and conduct other programming including faculty, parents, community events as needed
  • Supervise other educational presenters on site and as needed to prepare for programs
  • Liaise with current clients in scheduling programming and meeting stated requirements
  • Travel to communities as needed to build relationships, service schools, conduct programs, and organize and participate in community events
  • Counsel school personnel on specific situations as they arise under the supervision of CCSA’s Assistant Director
  • Facilitate the family support group (if candidate holds a clinical or equivalent degree)
  • Create and update interactive educational programming for middle and high schools
  • Identify, onboard and train new presenters
  • Handle administrative tasks including scheduling programs, coordinating schedules of presenters to ensure coverage and planning travel arrangements for out-of-town programs
  • Keep up to date on current trends and research around addiction and prevention education models
  • Market prevention programs to potential client schools and engage new clients, specifically in underdeveloped target markets and other communities
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in mental health, social work/counseling, addiction or a related field

  • Experience working with adolescents, young adults, and groups preferred

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, as well as the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously. This is a full time position that is a hybrid of travel for on-site programming and working remotely with occasional meetings at the home office located in Teaneck, NJ and the Ohel headquarters in Brooklyn, NY. Some evenings and Sundays required.

Salary: $70,000-$75,000
