Job summary

Jobtailor in Oak Brook, IL seeks an experienced leader to manage engineering capital projects. You will lead cross-functional teams, develop budgets and schedules, and drive CAPEX requests for Senior Management approval while ensuring compliance with FDA, ISO, NFPA, and EPA standards.

The role requires handling projects over US$50M or portfolios of smaller projects, with up to 50% travel to project sites and the ability to work in field and corporate office settings.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead or support capital projects and develop budgets, schedules and scopes of work
• Create and submit CAPEX requests for Senior Management approval
• Coordinate stage-gate project delivery and ensure safety, quality, cost, schedule, and performance
• Oversee multiple teams and manage project managers and engineers
• Develop installation and operation qualification protocols (IQ/OQ) and test plans aligned with FDA/ISO requirements
• Track project status, forecast KPIs, and report to stakeholders
• Supervise contractors for safety, quality, and on-time, on-budget installations
• Ensure regulatory, environmental, and corporate standards compliance (FDA, ISO, NFPA, EPA, OSHA)

Job description

• Support 3–5 simultaneous engineering capital projects as project leader or project team support
• Develop detailed project budgets, schedules, and scopes of work
• Create and submit capital expenditure requests for Senior Management approval
• Follow stage-gate project delivery processes covering safety, quality, cost, schedule, and performance
• Deliver larger projects over US$50M and/or portfolios of smaller projects
• Oversee multiple teams across departments and provide leadership on priority setting
• Manage project managers and project engineers
• Develop, execute, and document installation and operation qualification protocols and test plans in accordance with FDA and ISO requirements
• Track, forecast, and communicate project status and performance KPIs
• Supervise contractors and tradesmen for safety, job performance, quality, cleanliness, and appearance
• Oversee service-provider contracts and manage contractors for on-time, on-budget installations
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and corporate standards including NFPA, EPA, FDA, and OSHA
• Develop or facilitate user requirements and functional specifications
• Coordinate project purchases with stakeholders and procurement
• Ensure process design safety and review engineering drawings and calculations
• Close out projects with as-built documents, engineering change control, and complete documentation
• Identify and ensure critical spare parts supply at project completion
• Develop project management best practices and processes
• Correct unsafe work conditions or practices
• Troubleshoot engineering issues and support CAPA investigations
• Review, document, and test major changes through Engineering Change Control procedures

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or other relevant technical degree
• PMP certification is a plus
• Experience working in a process environment with in-depth, hands-on involvement
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Primavera, and Procore
• Ability to develop scope, schedule, budget, and forecast and manage priorities
• Experience in a highly regulated industry is a strong plus
• Ability to execute projects autonomously while following project management procedures and practices
• Ability to work both in the field and in a corporate office
• Travel up to 50% of business days to each project site
• Ability to meet deadlines while producing accurate, quality work
